So you have finally decided to get yourself a dresser - not only, but an oak dresser as well. This is really a good and wise decision, as investing in oak dressers, or any form of oak furniture, is an investment for a life. An oak dresser is an important piece of furniture to have in a period dining room and of course, your bedroom. This is because a dresser is something that was most prevalent in Victorian times, and was most often used as side tables for dressing food before serving, but in the bedroom dressers were and are used for storing clothes.
1. Standard bedroom dresser Standard bedroom dressers are usually rectangular in shape and are not that tall. These pieces of furnitures height range from 2-4 feet in height. These are your usual bedroom dressers as they feature drawers and some occasional cabinets, depending on the deisn. These dressers are what are usually used to store small clothing articles and small items. Its top can also function as a place for small display items like vases, photo frames and small figurines. A standard bedroom dresser is usually placed in rooms that have little space as these pieces are not big and bulky. These dressers come in different designs and can be made from different kinds of wood. The usual combinations are oak and maple since these hardwoods are very durable and are good for keeping clothes. Artistic touches of these simple standard dressers are usually noticed with the knobs and the color and grain combination of the wood used in the dresser.
The emphasis for modern dressers is to de-clutter bedrooms and create a harmonious themed design scheme within the bedroom, and often, bedroom units, including the wardrobe, overhead cupboards, dressing table and dresser will be made with one design theme and one colour so that everything is colour co-ordinated. Many newer dressers for bedroom have more storage space than dressers of old. Modern dressers still feature mirrors but they are usually placed as "vanity stations" with a slot for a low stool or chair. The cabinets and drawers flank the space for the chair. The spacious work tops of modern dressers are designed for keeping cosmetics and other trinkets on them without appearing messy or cluttered.
