Cherry Watkins. Box Spring. February 11th , 2018.
Visions of warm sandy beaches or powder covered ski slopes have many students and families excited for their upcoming spring break. With thoughts focused on how they will spend their vacation time and considering what souvenirs they may wish to bring home, the last thing they are considering is protecting themselves from bringing home bed bugs. They like to travel and are good hitchhikers. They will hide in suitcases, boxes and shoes to be near a food supply. They are elusive, nocturnal creatures and can hide behind baseboards and in cracks, crevices, and folded areas of beds, bedding and adjacent furniture, especially mattresses and box springs. Bed bugs can wreak havoc on your life, not only because of their itchy bites, but they spread quickly and are extremely difficult to get rid of.
If you think yours do not meet the standard, then you can get rid of them, but you will want some form of support. If you cannot afford box springs, wood supports are an option even though they may not be as strong. If you choose not to buy box springs, you should check and make sure any bedding you purchase are still under warranty. Since the mattress stores believe it helps mattresses to last, they may only let the warranty work if you purchase both together. It may depend on the store, so you should ask. When mattress stores tell you that it is better to purchase the springs with the bedding, it may come across as a money-making cover. It is easy to think this way with businesses, but it is good to think the best of them too. If a company truly has customer service in mind, they would never suggest something like this falsely.
Do I need a Box Spring for my Mattress? This question comes up at least once during bed shopping for 90% of all people. And for good reason. Box Springs are a multi-million dollar, multi-million tree chopping industry. So in light of the green revolution (re-co-lu-tion?) these days, one can only wonder: is there really a reason for all the senseless killing of defenseless trees just to have an extra foot of wood, fabric, and air underneath your fully functional mattress? As it turns out, the answer is both a resounding no with a hint of yes.
Two people can carry this piece of bedding accessory. You should hold one end and your friend can carry the other end. You should position yourself to the head of the box spring so you can go up backwards. Step 2: Measure the furniture first and find out if it can fit the stairway or the doorway of your room. Find a good angle where it can fit easily. Step 2: Slowly bend your knees until you have reached waist level. Be careful not to lift the furniture suddenly or you will hurt your back. Gradually lift your legs while holding one end of the box spring. Your friend holding the other end should do the same method at the same time.
If you require a box spring for your mattress If your purpose for a platform bed is to have a lower profile that adding a box spring might not make any sense. There are platform beds that have that have a much lower foundation that can easily set up the box spring and mattress. This way you can get the best setup for your mattress and still have that desire low profile. Does your Platform Bed have Slats? Slats can take place for the box spring. But once again you should refer to your manufactures guide. Depending on your mattress thickness, you could possibly feel the sagging around the spacing of your slats. Off course the closer the slats the better, but most of the times the slats are built in and only able to adjust them minimally. Using Plywood Deck If all else fails then the best solution is to measure the width and length of the bed. Use these measurements and cut out a plywood deck. I would recommend cutting them into 2 or 3 smaller pieces. Cutting one large plywood deck can be difficult, especially if you have a larger size like a king or queen. Once again though check with your manufacturers guide. The flat foundation could possibly make the mattress less comfortable.
